The Power of Having Pictures of Your Products

If you are browsing the internet and pull up a site that catches your eye, do you immediately begin reading or do you look at the pictures first? Pictures can be extremely powerful, which is why there is power in having pictures of your products.

It’s not just opinion, it’s biological. Of all your senses, sight is the most active. Your brain loves to react to bright images. When you see an imagine, whether you know it or not your brain is paying attention to it and analyze it. When you see an image, you’re more likely to remember it. The point is, images are powerful.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that when you include pictures of your products on your website, in your blog posts, or as part of your social media posts, you’re going to get more attention. You will have better luck grabbing the attention of your audience, and drawing them in to look closer at the picture, and whatever content you’ve posted alongside it. And hopefully, better luck selling that product too.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well, it may not measure up to exactly a thousand, but a picture can say more than you might be able to. You can sell your product to the best of your ability, but when it comes down to it, consumers are going to want to see a good picture of the product.

Now that you know the importance of having pictures on your website, how do you go about making sure you have the right kind of pictures of your products? Here are a few things to consider.

Produce Quality Photos

It goes without saying that if you are going to have photos on your website, they need to be quality photos. If you don’t know how to handle a camera well, leave the picture taking process up to a professional. When taking photos of your products you need to have good lighting, and a tripod for clear and steady photos.  Don’t forget about the background! Make sure it is complimentary and not distracting. You also need to be able to edit your photos before they are added to your website.

Have Several Pictures

If you’ve ever shopped online, you know that many websites have more than one picture for the product they’re selling. For shoppers that like to do a lot of research, or become familiar with what they’re purchasing (which are many shoppers), a few photos are appreciated. It is a good idea to show the front, side, and back view of your product. You also need to show each color and size variety.

Show Them What They Can’t See

It’s a good idea to include a photo “in real life” to show the scale and how to use your product. You can also have photos of your product being used in ways that the shopper hadn’t thought of or didn’t know about. Use your photos to highlight the best part about your product and the thing that sets it apart from your competition.
